Our next concert will be at 10 AM September 10, 2010, at the Warren Nelson Building (the OLLI facility) 401 West Second Street in Reno. We will perform in the Laxalt Theater (located at the right rear of the building).
Our music director and instructor is John Mueller. John has been teaching instrumental music since 1978 and has been the director of bands and orchestras at Incline Middle School in Incline Village Nevada since 1998. In May 2009 he was selected as the winner of the KRNV Excellence In Education award.
Our board of directors is elected by the band members as prescribed by our bylaws. The Reno Tahoe New Horizons Band is recognized by the state of Nevada as a not-for-profit corporation. Dan Smith (on trombone, bottom left) Is the president of our board of directors.
Our members range in age from the 50's to the 80's, however the median age is in the mid 60's.
Our Beginning Band mostly works out of method books. The goal is to prepare the player to join the Concert Band.
Our Concert Band plays mostly sheet music in a variety of styles. In our folders you will find music from TV, movies, novelty tunes, dances, marches, Broadway musicals, the classics, swing, jazz, Latin, and rock.
